A BEAUTIFUL NU YEAR TO EVERYONE
BANG BANG BANG
December 07, 2007
WHAT'S GOOD? GIRLS ARE!
yesss. 2007 has been a huge, a HUGE year for female rappers.
there hasn't been so much amazing talent out there in a long time.
if you haven't yet, check out all our favorites now:
to be continued...
THE YEAR IN GRIME
For those who couldn't or wouldn't follow the fate of GRIME and DUBSTEP
in 2007 Martin Clark delivers a neat retrospective over at
The UK Grime protagonists do not seem to be so very sure of their own status right now according to our friend Frede (what's going on with REPUBLISH by the way? where are you moving the server to, to fucking Mars??) who recently met CAMEO in London overhearing him say: "GRIME IS DEAD". Oops, watchamouth, people might feel irritated...
Is Cameo right? we can't really tell, not so much Grime on our stereo lately but we wouldn't wanna miss the great shows of Wiley or Roll Deep at our tent at Splash festival last summer (and you know what? we're doin it, we're doin it, we're doin it again! Splash 2008 here we come!!). Grime live still kicks like no other.
And as for Dubstep - hmm, some amazing productions for sure but nothing for dancefloors inna Sickgirlsstylee me tink. And Burial, SORRY, that's TRANCE,
advanced say or nerdy but still.
But then again there are guys like ONEMAN who provides his own translation of things (thanks for the link BELINDA).
see - the future is still bright (and warm. Bali-ho ho ho).

killer track from killa kela!
February 12, 2007
er kam, sah und siegte?
we will see. anyway, this is one to watch!
BON PHILLIP declares himself the first german g-grimer
and he might be right. it's not easy to spit in german, HALBGOTT
in berlin was one of the rare quality exceptions so far even if he neglected the "g" for a "c" being the first conscious grime mc for sure. and now we are happy to see that grime keeps on spreading in germany with its activists getting better and better.
check MAYDAY, get the mixtape and demand for BON PHILLIP to perform in your city....
remember one of our favourite tracks in 06?
sure you do - BROOKLYN ANTHEM by SHADETEK could not be overheard.
big tunes need big pictures so here you go:

successful record shopping might be one of the best
excitements life has to offer.
today was definitely a good day for vinyl and this is
what i brought home:
- MCD / OKAY
a great ep by MCD who is already releasing since 1995.
being the host of the infamous kitchen in brixton, london
he knows exactly how to push a track forward by his
spitting. the OKAY ep carries a heavy grimey original, a
cheesy-esque but still grooving 4/4 remix and two slower
tracks on the flip side with guests like roots manuva.
MCD's going to be on tour with the dead prez in the uk,
more info HERE
- ROGUESTATE / SOUND LIKE (benny page rmx)feat. BONGO CHILLI
a drum&bass track with a jungly summer feeling to it. we'll see
how you gonna react to this, might become one of my next hit tunes...
ROGUE STATE seems to be a producer from sheffield working with
an mc called BONGO CHILLI. more info at our most used platform
of today, myspace of course.
- BABY G REMIXES feat.WARD 21 + RASTA YOUTH / THIS IS HOW WE ROLL
i like honest jons records already for their carefully designed sleeves.
this one is especially eye-catching and colorful, real love.
i don't know the original song by terry hall & mushtaq
that is being remixed here but it must be a good one according
to the intense ragga versions on the 12". honest jons records is
here for a long time now their website has still to come...
- PLASTIC LITTLE / NOW I HOLLER, THE JUMP UP
plastic little are from philly. they work on labels like sound ink.,
maybe broklyn beats and in this case something called tonearm.
the 12" features two tracks, one of them being produced
by buddy diplo sporting a guest appearance by spankrock.
cool track with a beautiful female voice indie hook line,
don't really know if it's playable in a club but at least great to singalong to at home.
more soon, it's not over...

FRESH FOOD FOR MY NEEDLES
what a highly satisfying shopping experience i had yesterday:
great new or really good older records from HHV and SPACE HONDA.
this is fresh in my box in a top 10 order:
10. "number one spot" rmx - ludacris feat. kardinal
an older track from april this year that i missed out on or that i maybe didn't like at the time. fine remix of ludacris' austin power track upgraded by some good rhymes of the almighty kardinal offishal.
09. "rompe" - daddy yankee
the king of the barrio, daddy yankee, ran out of gas eventually.
'rompe' is his brandnew banging, humping & pumping party track with a m.i.a.-esque break that keeps it away from the dull 'all-reggaeton-sounds-the-same' curse, great peak time track for everybody start running wild.
08. "mic check" juelz santana - marshall law d&b rmx
i got the original 'mic check' maxi for quite a while now but never really played it because it just can't beat my absolute juelz santana favourite 'the whistle song' which will actually gain quite a high position on my 2005 BEST OFs. this d&b remix though gives 'mic check' a whole new quality especially because of its surprisingly fresh and modern sounding drum & bass patterns (and the massive bassline for sure)
07. "bhangra vs. hip hop" - vinyl fetish japan
'wasn't this bhangra thingy supposed to be over with by now?' you might ask. yes, kind of - but this ep from somewhere in japan is just too hilarious. hysteric and real clubby it will cause laughter and mayhem on the dancefloor. i'm looking so much forward to play the usher 'yeah' rip off...
06. "set it off" - strafe
i confess! i have stolen this. not the actual record but the idea to play this track again: many thanks to simian mobile disco! you've brought me back to a time when i was only a little younger than the average clubber i'm playing for nowadays. a time when 'set it off' got played on the radio...in '84, '85 or something...BIG tune, lovin' it.
05. "everything is under control" - coldcut
coldcut is definitely not sleeping on current sounds&styles. the forfathers of everything electronic+hiphop+eclectic+cutsamplebreaks+beats+cool definitely still know their steez, great record.
04. "ska riddim" white - various grime mcs
typical grime 12" with a friendly ska intro and a whole army of mcs. fumin, bruza, doctor and and and? dunno, uplifting though.
03. "born again" - rebel mc
here we go again: rebel mc is also one of my old buddies from back in the days. he's born again, thanks for that, ol'rebel.
02. "tivoli" lp - stacs of stamina
it's really strange how some records get released in complete quiet.
no buzz, no hype, no convincing promotional effects whatsoever. stacs of stamina deserve better. go listen and buy. cool guys, same as radioclit btw. watch out, we will bring them out to berlin. we hope.
01.b"top shotta" - chase&status feat. riko, trim + scratchy
01.a"duppy man" - chase&status feat. capleton
wooha - value for money! by one record, play both sides!
this does not happen so often, usually i buy a 12" for this one song
i have to play, no matter what else is on there. the chase&status 12" on breakbeat kaos is a double a-sider, both tracks with massive basslines, equally good...
and now you can't wait to listen to all that?
no problem. you know where to go.
09/12/05 subway - cologne
10/12/05 grimetime - berlin
more on this tomorrow. g'night.
just to prove that the ill-electronic-hiphop-movement we consider ourselves part of, is a totally global phenomena, let's introduce you to the TERIYAKI BOYZ.
they just released their first album BEEF OR CHICKEN on DEF JAM.
they are from tokyo and you should already know their dj:
it's NIGO, the mastermind behind A BATHING APE.
DAFT PUNK are fans, too and so they produced one of the new TB tracks.
have a look at the HEARTBREAK video. and say something nice in japanese.
November 29, 2005
DIZZEE RASCAL - MATHS AND ENGLISH
word on the streets is that we can look forward to the new DIZZEE RASCAL album
MATHS AND ENGLISH in the not too far away future.
HMV is scheduling the album for march 06.
we hope they got it right...
until then keep on listening to WASTEMAN live, that's all we know so far from the new longplayer...
THE ANDY WARHOL DIARIES
nice idea by f5ive:
he just started a new blog called I BLOGGED ANDY WARHOL where you can find the original andy warhol diaries exactly 29 years after he first started recording them. just as if good ol' andy would still be sitting there writing his own blog. an online time-capsule.
makes me wonder in what certainly ingenious way mister mass-products would use the internet nowadays.

RIDING ROUND THE BLOGS
DIZZEE RASCAL - WASTEMAN LIVE
it's this time of the year again: the best-of-2005 listings have to be put together like multi-layered puzzles of hear/feel/see emo-decisions prepped with some rational nerdism.
and what turns out to be my number 1 album?
DIZZEE RASCAL "BOY IN DA CORNER" from the year 2003, actually.
hey - this is wrong, you will say. no it's not. when i think of all those Grime & related albums of 2005, then i can not find a single one that has the same freshness, originality and verve to it like DIZZEE's debut. one of the reasons for this is definitely the take of the industry or those industry-craving wannabes on "songs-for-the-ladies" bullshit. what is that supposed to mean anyway? what kind of ladies you think are into Grime? do you really have to listen to ROLL DEEP while holding hands and staring at the moon with blurry eyes? nope. could you just leave that in the damn closet right next to the stinky corpse of r.-unbelievable-dumbfucker-kelly, pls? thx.
WAYNE&WAX DUBBLE DUB MIX
what a perfect little mix to start the day with - especially a sunny sunday with snow-white roof-tops all around town. enjoy.
DJ ELEVEN HOUSTON ROCKS MIX
followed by my favourite DIRTY SOUTH HIP HOP mix right now.
THE RUB's DJ ELEVEN got all the right tracks lined up in a juicy, bass-heavy houston-so-real spirit, absolutely delicious. get it.
JUELZ SANTANA, YOUNG JEEZY, LIL WAYNE - MAKE IT WORK FOR YOU
i got the feeling (i.e.hope) that there are some more DIPSET / DIPLOMATS fans out there by now? hello germany? in case you don't really know what i'm talking about or you've heard of the brooklyn based clan already but don't know where to start at - ok, do this:
get the "BACK LIKE COOKED CRACK" 1-3 mixtapes and the brandnew album "WHAT THE GAME'S BEEN MISSING" all by JUELZ SANTANA. the SANTANA / DIPSET sound gets too close sometimes to kinda like a pathetic warren g/tupac heavy strings & choir richness but the harder, more stripped-down tracks like the one above are really doing it for me. time for a DIPSET party over here, right?
STACS OF STAMINA - ROLL FEAT. EARS
some more cool shit for you to indulge. STACS OF STAMINA seem to be from sweden, they are buddies with TTC and MC EARS and just released a brilliant album full of €CRUNK at the highly recommended WERK label.

PALAST DER REPUBLIK - ENDE NEU
24/11/2005 - 21h
PALAST DER REPUBLIK
yes! we are excited. we get to play the palast.
if we could we would stop all this stadtschloss-craze and keep this
amazing building alive but we doubt that this is actually going to happen.
come support anyway - pay your tribute.
the programme is quite interesting, we play alongside a real professor,
yes man, who's into GRIME.
plus we're happy to perform with BRUDER&KRONSTAEDTA again,
this is what the press sheet says:
ende ± neu

SIMIAN MOBILE DISCO ALONE AT HOME
ok. thanks for that. we are sad and somehow disenchanted.
nobody really showed us any love on saturday. 103 club was basically deserted.
apart from some true souls though: big up sabine, heike, torsten, dirk, mitja & dmitri!
we got the few other people who were there dancing for a while but still not enough meat to work a real party.
we don't know what was wrong, maybe nobody knows simian mobile disco?
which seems strange cause the guy JAS was good and we did definitely fit very well together stylewise.
if you haven't so far listen to this SIMIAN MOBILE DISCO MIX
and SHOW UP pls the next time he's in town.
SAIAN SUPA BRO'S
say teddy - say toni - say mitchell bro's
we had great fun on friday. intro intim had a good crowd and some brilliant performances to be proud of.
mattafix and mitchell brothers both rocked but the most entertaining show was delivered by saian supa crew. they looked like a bunch of funny bouncing bugs, spitting, toasting and dancing like crazy and occasionally bumbing in each other on stage.
don't know the name of this one guy but they've got the best beat boxer i've seen in ages, scratching and singing the most diverse tracks, or have you ever seen a beatboxer doing 'satisfasction' by benny benassi? c-r-a-z-y!
November 16, 2005
have a look at this nerdy but funny video about some of our
we're trying to get them over to berlin in february, watch out...

NINJA VADIM IMMO KRAUSE
wot? you don't want to go out every night? why's that? tired? old? nothing to wear?
come on. don't be like this.
look - DJ VADIM is old, too. chap been around for ages, still fresh though. no bad smells, we promise. plus see this guy from, uhm, america. $MALL CHANGE. not quite a good blogger but a widespread taste in music - always comes handy, especially at 103 club.
oh, btw: in case there'll be this guy in a bath robe standing right next to you, don't call the security, show some respect instead. that's IMMO. crazy-fantazy yo? and all that. meet you there then.
p.s.: hey you english people. lesson: KRAUSE is sort of like the german word for afro. could be a dj team from easty-beasty jena, too.
November 08, 2005
nuff said - just go.
November 07, 2005
this is totally old news - i know - but thanks to MR. J.
i came across this amazing dj mix melting pot for the first time:
delivers tons of good mixes of whatever genre you can think of.
brilliant - check it out.

WORK THAT - LET ME SEE YOU DRIP SWEAT
DAVID BANNER, my dear friends, is such a GEILE SAU, as we germans use to say.
your girls nearly risked their lifes when they got sucked in by a world of blank horror and we advice you: never follow our footsteps if your sickness does not meet our standards.
spread your fingers, cross the middle ones and say (in a really deep and harsh voice):
yep. we'd been there. right in the center of darkness and decay.
where tons of cheap-ass PINKY customers wrench their brainless massappeal bodies like a stumbling army of sunbed warriors on the dancefloor at - and this will be the first and last time we mention this terrible name - KUDORF.
but still: it was worth the hassle.
DAVID BANNER turned out to be just the right pulsating piece of sexy, wet flesh we imagined him to be when we first heard his luscious fuck-anthem PLAY. he got rid of his shirt right after entering the stage, showered himself in heavy champagne rain and all you wanted to do was LICKY LICKY LICKY whatever came dripping down his massive chest. uhhhhh. totally ill and motherfucking dirty. you can't go more south than this.
if just these ugly questions wouldn't go round my head all day:
WHY WHY WHY MUST A PERFECT PERFORMANCE LIKE THIS TAKE PLACE IN
SUCH A CRAP LOCATION?
WHY CANT WE PRESENT ARTISTS LIKE BANNER TO DO A REAL PARTY WITH REAL FANS AND REAL EXCESS?
WHATS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE UP THERE IN THE MUSIC BIZ?

ROCKY HORROR HOLOCAUST SHOW
i visited the HOLOCAUST monument in berlin today.
at first it looked ridiculously friendly in the golden sunlight with
legions of tourists surrounding and intruding it, using the bench-like stones for sitting or sunbathing or even for posing for holiday pictures by standing right on them before the witless idiots got scared away by serious looking security personnel.
when i entered the field of silent monoliths myself i forgot about blue skies and silly tourists immediately: the place is intimidating enough to leave you alienated and appropriately horrified at least for a little while before you'll get caught by it's architectural beauty and fascinating serial dissymetrie.
so i had to do what everybody does: take some pics.
(with my mobile phone camera btw so pls excuse)
don't want to get lost in the woods?
forget about breadcrumbs - tag your way out.
found this by the wannsee woods close to pfaueninsel

INTO THE GROOVE
grab the november issue of GROOVE MAGAZIN and find
the SICK GIRLS in bed with SASHA from JAHCOOZI.
we're chatting music, life and beyond but please
don't nail us down too seriously to the given quotes,
remember: it's the media...
(we love it, we hate it, we're part of it, so wtf)
got to speak some more words regarding our Groove session.
just bought the magazine myself and had a good lough reading
what we did and - more important - definitely didn't say in the interview...
i know it's always difficult for a journalist to pin down exactly who said what when you're dealing with more than one interview partner, left alone three talkative girls. still it would have been better, if mr.groove would have recorded the talk instead of only taking notes. please excuse in case anybody feels insulted or misunderstood - most of our quotes are chopped and screwed and cut down to nonsense really. one thing though i would say over and over again:
some label should get us to make compilations for them.
coz we can do it better.

RUB IT IN
get this ace 30minutes mix by DJ AYERS.
he's the mixmaster at THE RUB in NYC, the night of the IT'S THE MOTHERFUCKING REMIX mash-up kings.
if you happen to live straight up north somewhere catch him live
on tour in sweden & denmark in november.
or what about this rather old but still kickin' mix of my
currently most favorite american party crasher LOW BUDGET.
get the new mix BMORE GUTTER MUSIC as mentioned before at HIP HOP VINYL or by mailorder somewhere.
TO HELL WITH IT
okay - go on write your comments again, please.

DUDES LOVE GIRLS
i'm a bit slow sometimes so please excuse this be-lated notion of
a new cool ep on SHADETEK RECORDS.
after the great GIRLS EP with my ever so favourite JAHCOOZI BLACK BARBIE remix by MDSLKTR on it (which i lost in some club during a gig, damn. u can still get it though, for instance at hip hop vinyl) the DUDES EP is just the right step to take. with first class contributions by our crazy french friend PARA ONE, TAME ONE from LEX REC and many more, it delivers the perfect material for sick girls and bass boys.
here is a lil snippet for promotional use only, you hear me?
go and get the record, it's worth it and have you seen the amazing artwork?
thx to la BIG FIMP for dipping my nose into this.

I BE ON IT
I BE ON IT, I BE ON THAT KRYPTONITE
always funny to see how i look when i'm spinning records.
what am i listening to? heavy metal?
anyway - great night last saturday with one of our most favorite fans right next to me.
don't know where my better half had been at this very moment, maybe at the bar...
- KRYPTONITE by PURPLE RIBBON ALLSTARS, cool track, i'm definitely on it.
- GRIME MIX by BARBARA HALLAMA via REPUBLISH, nice mix from TWEN FM's SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL GHETTO lady
- BMORE GUTTER MUSIC by LOW BUDGET + AARON LACRATE, ace mix cd by the HOLLERTRONIX rebels and DIPLO buddies from down south baltimore
sorry mates - you've got to register from now on

WALK THIS WAY
i'm treating my mobile phone with due respect.
the smart little trooper bears much more knowledge than i can actually handle and most of the time it must feel utterly unchallenged because i'm only ever using it to CALL people, how dull. the vtt technical research center of finland will help. soon your mobile phone will be busy all day learning about your special way of carrying yourself:
"Researchers at the VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland have developed a prototype of a cell phone that uses motion sensors to record a user's walking pattern of movement, or gait. The device then periodically checks to see that it is still in the possession of its legitimate owner, by measuring the current stride and comparing it against that stored in its memory."
and while your phone takes care for itself, SIEMENS is printing batteries and displays on nearly everything for cheap. open your fridge and see your yoghurt getting bossy:
TAKE ME! TAKE ME!

nice pis, too. go find dj maxximus, dirk w. and halfgirl/halfsick

BOND TURNS BLONDE
SUPER SHARP SHOOTER
finally. fresh announcement: DANIEL CRAIG is the new JAMES BOND.
coincidentially i've seen his movie LAYER CAKE just yesterday
and was quite impressed already with DANIEL's straight blue eyes and
nicely defined body (purr purr).
good choice for the MI5 even if he carries a slight second hand feeling about him,
considering that his morning tea had been served by ms HEIKE MAKATSCH for a while.
what about another german experience, Daniel, hm?
ps: we're sorry ROBBIE, the better man wins...

JOHN PEEL DAY TODAY
hey folks - hold on for a sec
WAS MACHT EIGENTLICH...
SO SOLID CREW lately?
here you go:
"There were interesting scenes in a London court room yesterday, when So Solid Crew’s Megaman, who is up on charges of ordering a man’s killing, defended himself by singing his lyrics to the courtroom in an attempt to deny that they glorified violence. Dwayne Vincent then drew a line between himself the “businessman” and Megaman the “musician”, and then insisted that when he was speaking about shooting people, he was “using it as a metaphor. I’m saying I’m hitting them with a lot of hits in the music industry.” He then also denied that they ever had any fans in south London who were likely to commit violence, claiming that most of their fans were actually busy at “universities and colleges.”

ADIDAS HOODIE HOP
seriously serious - JME goes RUN DMC
dresdner bahnhof? what an enormous location. had adidas written all over. literally.
note: never wear an adidas logo jacket when you go to a sponsored event like this. the leaf was a bit over-exposed (and i usually REALLY like adidas) which would have been okay if all the good company money hadn't only been spent on visuals but also on a better pa. nonetheless the party was great because - yes, you know it - LADY FURY, JME, SKEPTA, TINCHY and tiny tiny PLASTICMAN took the stage and the audience by storm. mr.shadetek provided a perfect intro, middle and outro for the two (yes, two! and now you're jealous, aight?) performances of the bouncing lot and all the girls in the room weren't sure if they would rather take JME or his brother SKEPTA home, both cute to the max. if anybody scored or not and whatever happened in the hotel after the show we leave to The Mirror and your imagination.

GRIME WATCH GERMANY
* MUTE RECORDS has licensed ROLL DEEP's album 'DOWN AT THE DEEP END' from relentless rec. for a german release date in the near future.
* WARNER scheduled the german release date of THE MITCHELL BROTHERS' album for november. THE MITCHELL BROTHERS will perform live in berlin on november 18 for INTRO INTIM at PALAIS DER KULTURBRAUEREI and guess who are the support djs? yess - it's your sickedest sistas...
we feel honored - thanx SL! KANO's official german album release will follow in the first half of 2006. get HOME SWEET HOME triple!!!vinyl at HIP HOP VINYL!
* ISLAND/UNIVERSAL still has got no definite release date for LADY SOV's album to offer due to new tracks by MISSY, NEPTUNES, JAY Z and GOD that have to be included but are not approved by the lady herself yet. do we still talk GRIME here?
* JUICE MAGAZINE is getting strong on GRIME in their october issue. there's LADY SOV & ROLL DEEP features sticking out, a MITCHELL BRO's review and both, mitchell bro's and kano's longplayers can be found in the 'redaktions-charts'.
* INTERSCOPE GERMANY felt the urge to upgrade WILL SMITH'S new 12" PARTY STARTER with some funny remixes including a CO-P GRIMEY MIX which we would rather call a HEAVY CRUNKER since we are missing at least 45 bpm.

DIAL UP - MORE UK HIP HOP
hey, OPTIMUS PRIME, transform!
okay. OPTIMAS PRIME, how's this?
wow. great transformation, bubba.
better than the one of the poor little idiot in the us army who
actually had his name changed into optimus prime, which did
not prevent him from dying of prostata cancer soon after. r.i.p.op.
back to the uk. back to a rather strange environment for
hard-edged hip hop afficionados: welcome to cardiff.
this is where monkey, stagga and touchy muff (?!?) got together
to form OPTIMAS PRIME and DIAL UP RECORDS.
these guys have got a pretty diverse taste in hip hop and deliver
nourishing releases and remixes that work perfectly at home and in the club alike.
i just got their new ep 'TRY BEFORE YOU DIE' and this is exactly what you should do, too.
here is one drum&bass remix i really like, more downloads (14!)on their website.
whoever missed the screening of RIZE, david lachapelle's amazing documentary on
CLOWNING and KRUMPING earlier this month at MUSEUMSINSEL
gets another chance from october 20 onwards, when the movie will officially start nation-wide.
the infamous fight-dance style that has been developed by gangs and street dancers
after the la riots in 1992 has gained mainstream fame through several music videos
(-> chemical brothers, missy, aguilera) since then.
watch it - it's massive.

BERLIN SHOPPING - IN YA FACE
hey girls & boys!
B. AN. AN. AS.
the september mix is up at certified bananas' new blog.
it's my most favourite mix yet with the funny cb guys running wild
through their cheesy 80s collection
(is she really going out with him?
is she really gonna take him home tonight? lalala)
and picks of whatever lives in the murky corners of their instable minds.
just the right stuff for a sick girl.
F*** - TOO LATE
just found this on the fip mag blog
and fuck I'm jealous!
I would really really love to go there. any sponsors here
who could bring me to london tomorrow, hello?
anyway - we haven't heard much of DIZZEE lately,
it's time for more shows in Berlin, dude. com'ere!

UK HIP HOP
just 15 months ago I would have stated:
"new uk hip hop? goldie lookin'chains you mean? that's about it, innit?"
luckily enuff life is all about learning and thus I did.
find my personal recommendations and some sound bites below.
don't forget, I said "personal" - means very subjective picks
from a much bigger pool of artists, obviously...
freshman in da biz and everybodie's darling right now:
introducing SWAY DASAFO
he runs his own night in london, is nominated for the mobo awards without even being signed and got his very own slot on the prestigious run the road 2 compilation. a very professional 22-years-old newbie that is. SWAY might be the next one getting a call from jay-z but I bet he won't pick up the phone. for just a couple of days now his first single "up your speed" is out on all city on cd + vinyl, get it at JUNO (see sick faves).
here is a lil download of another very fashionable smash hit:
while sway is following fashion, KLASHNEKOFF is following his heart. last year saw the release of his first 6-tracker 'The SAGAS OF KLASHNEKOFF' full of political conscious hip hop/ragga anthems. he's been featured on 'run the road' for the second time as well and is as charismatic as he is petite.
this is one to sing-a-long:
being on the road for quite some time, the NEXTMEN are definitely always up-to-date and one of my favourite producers. they include traditional hip hop, dancehall vibes and even grrrrime into their various releases and just started their own label 'custom records'. get whatever you can by the NEXTMEN, it will always add to your collection.
here's a snippet of a new release - more downloads on their website.
ok. we're leaving the hype/style section for now for some real rural essex talent (where hip hop lives...). meet JIBBARISH and his friends. we don't know what he puts on his cereals every morning or maybe it's in the essex water - whatever it is, something makes him rap fast. and faster. hitting warp speed any sec.
there's not much out on vinyl yet but DROP BOMBZ has a sure place in my record box, always good for when the going gets tough.
snippet here plus a full mp3 of THE CAVALRY. a slow bounce by EVIL ED with an all star team including YUNGUN, RICOCHET & guess who's JIBBARISH, rat-tat-tat.
hot like fire, cold like winter, flow like water...

NINJA TUNE WAX SACK
are you one of the "gefuehlte" 80% djs out there? then you'll know what i'm talking about.
what to do with your vinyl when it's time to leave the house for work?
can't really balance it in a bucket on your head, can you? and since you're not the first one being confronted with this problem, there had been many many and a dozen more smart designers bursting with ideas of how to get your rekkits from a to b.
and oh my gosh - how did they fail! at least the ones who could not afford being too thoughtful cause of the cheap bastards who hired them. thank you reeloop. hello magma. you suck. most of the time.
cases? get the one from HARDWAX. even when it's empty it will weigh more than a fiat 500 with half your family on board. but: it's safe, always to be trusted, always there for you when a chair is missing or somebodie's head has to be smashed in. a knight's armour for your black gold. (deep sigh...)
trolleys? never get them by mailorder if you have not seen them face to face before. will the handle actually fit you or will it rather be a dwarfey than a trolley (ha.ha.ha.)? has anybody at the manufacturer actually ever seen a skateboard before they started bragging with their super polyurethane danny way approved hyper wheels? and so on and so on. stick with UDG for the regular city business. if you've got to travel a lot though, go with a prayer and the strong believe in the good powers of the universe or (see above) take the case and some groupie to carry it for you.
you are athletic, stylish as fuck and never need more than 40 of your favorite whites to make the girls giddy and the guys bow their heads in respect?
ya. get this then. i love this one. it's the best. it's a rucksack.
the ninja tune wax sack. rich material. snap-hook, eye - everything metal. tons of practical lil zipper bags. the softest neoprene handle and the cutest flock of flying ninja eyes embroidered (gasp) to the front. won't safe your vinyl from bumps and beer attacks but hey - this is not where you're going anyway.
here it is. pretty lil princess, aight?
(and yes - i put the record next to it on purpose. double-coolness, know i'm sayin'?)
whatever, if you're looking for a rucksack, take this one, it's real good. that was all i wanted to say really...

YOU'RE NUMBER 37, HAVE A LOOK
a strong promising coffe in combination with an old record
that fits you as well as your favorite hoodie, can bring strange
conclusions with them: it's time now.
my personal all time fav top 100 singles list has to be done.
like writing your last will or open your diary to everybody.
should be ready in a fortnight.
dunno how it's going to turn out yet but one thing is for certain,
it will be completely free of beatles and rolling stones tracks.
UP ABOVE AND ALL AROUND
the most sinister and disturbingly meanignful dreams woke me
up early this morning. so i decided to start the day with a song.
Sunday morning, praise the dawning
It's just a restless feeling by my side
Early dawning, Sunday morning
It's just the wasted years so close behind
Watch out, the world's behind you
There's always someone around you who will call It's nothing at all
Sunday morning and I'm falling
I've got a feeling I don't want to know
Early dawning, Sunday morning
It's all the streets you crossed, not so long ago
Watch out, the world's behind you
There's always someone around you who will call It's nothing at all
Watch out, the world's behind you
There's always someone around you who will call It's nothing at all
Sunday morning Sunday morning Sunday morning

WHEN I SAY GRAVE YOU SAY YARD
damn - here come the graveyard man
i'm really thrilled bout some new talent from so not london, for once.
introducing knife edge records. welcum the birmingham murker MIC MAN and his graveyard crew.
and guess where the label is coming from? yape, it's your favourite pond getting agitated.
tony, the man behind possible music decided to go deeper into the grim grime business
and started knife edge records right here in berlin, presenting some smashing mcs that he found thru strange coincidences in his hometown birmingham.
i can't praise them enuff - the tracks i heard so far got just the right energy to pull everybody onto the dancefloor, no matter if you know about this style or not.
techy2step grime with da most hip hop mc flavour, kickin' ass.
trust me, whenever&wherever i'm playing - i will drop the tunes for sure. rewind!

had been asked for my current grime top 10 by rap.de yesterday
and found it quite difficult to get ten new tracks together.
grime is not constantly offering off the hook tracks.
sometimes the releases are just mere copies of the last big tune
like all the POW and NO rip-offs out there and sometimes
it's just not my cup of dirt.
this is it:
1. "GET SET" low deep feat. kano, doctor, demon, ghetto+big seek /
run the road 2 sampler, 679 rec.
2. "OS&SKITS" mic man feat. cw / knife edge recordings 002
3. "WAR" fumin / backslang ep, ud whites
4. "9 TO 5" lady sovereign, jme remix / island
5. "LIFT OFF" plasticman / macabre unit, terrorhythm
and here is a lil bit of WAR for you:
download FUMIN here

pass the border westwards - head to france and
download some killer dj mixes at ROOTS PEOPLE MUSIC.
tricky PLASTICMAN mc mix, dubstep SLAUGHTER MOB bassmonster
and a dance your ass off J DA FLEX burner, just to name a few.

THIS GUY IS SKY HY
ATLANTA gives home to LUDACRIS as well as to OUTKAST which seem to be
two of the main influences of our man SKY HY.
my friend petal (yo girl!) saw him live at the wmc this year and dropped me
a real cool track:
THE YEEK SONG is doing all the right things at the right time,
nuff electronics, nuff dirty south, nuff intelligence to make me sweat.
have a listen and let us know if we should get him for the revolution...
August 23, 2005
I FOUND IT AND NOW ITS MINE.
* download ROLL DEEP and KANO live at the amphitheatre, new york over at djlioness. that's anyway a blog to watch. it's improving everyday with rinse fm dj lioness delivering the good stuff right from the streets...
* get the sex/sweat/relax august mix at the crazy and definitely certified bananas
* and while you're already there, just stroll over to lemon red for the monthly freebee mix. it's ghislain poirier this time and i want to marry him. maybe.
* psychic reading? dude, leave the psychic and stick with reading. the berlin international literature festival starts at the 6th of september. check out the opening with fuentes and enzensberger and a packed programme of all sorts, for instance contemporary us stuff at the 'focus california' and lots of poets&poems, my love.
* this boy got balls. get to know about this oh so sinister soul of a child in the body of gareth pugh whose fairy tale fashion strangely touches long forgotten feelings. do you remember das maerchen vom zinnsoldaten? the bitter way down the gutter in cold dirty water...?
* stains and drops all over the place can make my day. have a taste of refreshment and joy looking at KR's lifesigns at my favourite number ni9ne
* and one for the ladies! femalehiphop.net is looking for a skillful programmer to support their site - please get in contact if you're female/young/urban/professional or what ever it takes to know which key to hit (i don't). speaking of keys: in case you're better with your voice or you feel the beat and produce your own - get in touch as well. femalehiphop.net launches its first netlabel called flip flops! i adore the name, like riding your bike in a real neat second hand cocktail dress with your flip flops on, your mobile phone in one hand and a malzbier in the other. oh - that's a description of my gal heike. hello heike.
August 20, 2005
the first sampler of run the road2 is out on 679 records.
i'm listening for the 5th time in a row now to low deep's 'get set'
and it gives me goose pimples and instant happiness.
you will want to dance, laugh, cry and drive a very fast car all at the same time.
cameo dropped the tune with at least a hundred rewinds at
the last grime time at wmf and i hope he will do so again
on the 26th of august.
can't wait for KANO to perfom it live when he's going to
bust the revolution next month!

TRICKY DELIVERS PT.2
hurry up - there's fresh grime to check out at tricky tunes.

2. slew dem - grime 2005 pt.2 / wiley&instrumental
3. roll deep / the avenue heartache refix
4. knife edge rec. 002 / os&skits
(oops - i'm not supposed to mention this yet coz it's not out at all,
can't help it, it's toooo good. more on knife edge records soon)
5. dj dread-d, black ops / invade 2
and f*** it - today is the day my seemingly indestructible
cerwin vega speakers finally got their bass blasted,
at least one of them. anybody knows where to get spare parts for it?
i want the orange ring.

July 04, 2005
i bought about 20 records in different shops:
honest jons records
all shop staff had been super nice especially youngsta at black market
whose set at dmz on saturday night i missed because i did not go there.
fell asleep in my hotel room instead, dammit!
here's a little overlook of what i brought with me:
- 'doogoo machine' ricky rankin + roots manuva on banana klan
- '1 thing' amerie phoreyz rerub white
- 'two culture clash' album (finally!) on wall of sound
- 'home sweet home' kano album on 679
- 'the avenue' roll deep on relentless
- 'dont chat' jme white
- 'fame and money' booty bouncers feat wiley on ratrecords
- 'the wrath' dmz 003 + 'mood dub' dmz 004
- 'almighty father' sunship feat warrior queen rmx on casual
- 'melody' chaos soldiers rfx white
- 'alias' alias ep white
- 'the tunnel vision ep' pjam on dice rec.
- 'grime 2005 part 2' slew dem white
- 'invade 2' black ops
- 'dub express' dj hatcha on tempa
- 'the subterranean ep' 2nd 2 none on army
some bashment, some grime, some cheesy summer stuff and some 4/4
all i like.
okay - london was real cool.
aside from spending way too much money i experienced a
great bit of music/fashion/culture.
RUN THE ROAD
my hotel was so close i could even walk down to the fabric on friday night, brilliant.
thanks to judy and marc i had a very warm welcome there and went straight up to the vip area (which is a bar/lounge located on a gallery right above room one with direct view onto the stage).
when i got there (btw. you wouldn't have believed the queue at the main entrance going over the street around the next block and on and on. everybody just patiently waits in a perfect line, no complaints, no bullshitting. hint hint - you berlin devils...).
lady sov was on, spitting my favourite tune 9-5 but strangely enough i seemed to be the only one being enthusiastic about it. all in all it was not a good slot for
sov being the opener for roll deep in front of a nearly all-male audience that showed no love for the lil' volcano in the adidas track suit.
then cameo came on, great intro as always, followed by jme and crazy titch and then a whole bunch of roll deep family members: danny weed, jammer, wiley, manga and lots more, too many to be sure about who was who really. the show was pumping, all hits sung along by the crowd, cameo acting like crazy behind the turntables, rewind action over and over again. nice. best mc: definitely jme (wiley seemed a bit weak and puzzled to me,
uh - must have been the cigarettes, aight?).
what happened next was totally new to me. i had no idea how huge klashnekoff is in london. when he and his crew entered the stage the crowd went totally mad!
all hands up, everybody shouting, everybody repping along to every single tune, wow - massive. i dont know much about him (apart from being featured on the first run the road comp and the rwd bit) but the man is a star. very small, very charismatic guy with the utmost friendly but political conscious performance i've seen in years.
a hip hop reggae grime mix with a very professional and active crew and a fantastic dj (if i just would know who he was). we got to get them for revolution n°5 - exactly our cup of tea, darling!
since i got hit by some vanilla vodka (eek!) and some herbs in the meantime i kind of lost track of whatever happened then. when i looked back at the stage again i saw a second roll deep set with a different dj (dunno) and even more guys present - one of them being the worst, and let me say this again, the worst (english) mc i've ever seen.
i'm sorry, scratchy, but you're not having it.
ok you're white which might not make it any easier for you but hey - there are enuff white boys&girls out there who get their moves and their spitting right, unfortunately you're not amongst them. leave it. or maybe you just had a bad mic day? i hope so.
all in all the show was a bit disorganised, everybody seemed to get closer to the state jammer was in the whole night already (he carries a glass of champagne and a spliff around with him all the time) or maybe this is just the way it goes. then everybody left stage and the scratch perverts came on. great skills: their scratching and mixing even woke me up again but not for long. i had to leave for the hotel right in the middle of their set to finally get some rest (after i had to get up so damn early in the morning to catch my flight).
great night. good crowd (big crowd!). even if i missed the over the top girls percentage that i'm used to from the wmf. i really hope that we get a similar amount of people to listen to grime in berlin in the upcoming months.
run the road 2 will be out in august
TOUCH ME I'M SICK
congrat of the month:
goes to glitterhouse.
twenty years constant effort.
true companion of my guitar-driven youth...
June 30, 2005
(found no good link for JME, one of my fav mcs right now.
check out his 'dont chat' tune:
"dont chat crap please. if you cant make sense dont emcee")
oh what a night...off to london it goes.
i don't know if i will be able to smuggle my
camera into the fabric to give you a decent report.
the bouncers there are quite friendly but very professional
and i don't want to risk to be kicked off the guestlist...
dunno - more than likely i will be too busy dancing anyway.
saturday won't see me heading to hyde park for live8 but
trying to make my way to brixton for the dmz summer blaze down.
sublow, dubstep or whatever it's called right now -
doesn't matter - the bass will be heavy for sure.
maybe not as heavy though as finding a mini cab driver
who knows the way back to ec1 afterwards.
lil' modern tate, brick lane and window shopping on top
and the weekend is packed with all things i love about london.
more on monday.

lose control on missy's site.
her new album 'the cookbook' will be out on july 5.
it's loaded with ingenius ideas, great samples and surprising collabos.
lose control bears a hook of a juan atkins cybotron classic
(yo - hope you got paid, juan!), the neptunes go out of their way
again with the hyper-dark bass-tek beeper 'on and on'
and even m.i.a. gets to contribute a lil' blah blah, oh my gosh.

i know it's a little bit nerdy this one.
i like it though...
get the tshirt from www.threadless.com
just in case there is really somebody out there reading:
you might wonder what this german - english language thingy is all about.
i woke up like this.
plus i think we need to spread some international love from now on.
not so many people do actually speak deutsch on the planet, so why shall we?
'weil ihrs besser könnt als englisch' i hear a few of you saying.
c'mon, cut the crap. smarty pants go home.
ALL SYSTEMS GO
and btw: i'm back on firefox.
be careful: dont install+uninstall GOOGLEBAR on your firefox
if you don't know exactly what you're doin'(like me).
it'll fuck up the browser and you will hate the day.
ok. got rid of the dead fox - installed a fresh one and it's all good now...

he auto, lass die finger vom sound!
pfffffff. no more kinzo.

IN LOVE WITH ANNA
erfolgreich whites geshopped bei tricky tunes in friedrichshain.
das gute an weissmustern ist die anonymität.
von wem? von wann? egal.
ruff squad 'anna'- kleine hymne, leicht melodramatisch aber hit
main ft fresh "realion" - remedee, shizzle, flirta d, napper, soulja kid, jme, ryder, babycham, spider b, lethal b & neeko; knackig
May 12, 2005
meine shystie platten gehen straight into the bin und gemma fox fliegt gleich hinterher.
habs versucht mit euch - es geht nicht.

M.A.I. - MASHEN AND IRRWITZ

IF I WAS A RICH GIRL
50 gramercy park north lautet meine zukünftige adresse.
modern-anonyme residenz für großstädter by heart verwandelt.

i'm living my life like it's golden. golden...
collén & webb presents "the jamaican jerk off" gamm 14
soultrade shopping: neben einigen überteuerten re-edit hüftschiebern mit floorfiller-garantie (na mädels, bisschen getunedten nelly und will smith gefällig? break it down/break it down for me) konnte ich mich once again über das hervorragende gamm label aus schweden freuen.
die geheime remix loge aus stockholm glänzt mit inzwischen 19 releases, jede einzelne eine liebevolle hommage an alles was den freundlichen nordländern gefällt. for the real hip hop lovers. überhaupt hinterlassen alle gamm 12"s nur angenehmsten nachgeschmack, irgendwas zwischen erdbeeren, zimtstangen und zartbitterschokolade, no go for ansager und pitbulls - grünes licht für knowledgeparties mit anlächeln und küssen. wer zumindest in die nähe des "for promotional use only" imprints kommen möchte, kann über raw fusion records mehr über distribution und artists erfahren und sich zum beispiel red astaire, den producer der legendären gamm 1 ins haus holen.

AD.VICE / TEMPA vs.679
"sag mal, was ist denn eigentlich grime?"
TEMPA ALLSTARS 2 -> auf tempa rec., get it at hardwax
RUN THE ROAD -> auf 679 rec., get it per mailorder

endlich POW! lethal bizzles 2004 grime anthem.

ladies we can run this world! WORD.
