FRESH FOOD FOR MY NEEDLES

wrecker2.gif

what a highly satisfying shopping experience i had yesterday:
great new or really good older records from HHV and SPACE HONDA.
this is fresh in my box in a top 10 order:

10. "number one spot" rmx - ludacris feat. kardinal
an older track from april this year that i missed out on or that i maybe didn't like at the time. fine remix of ludacris' austin power track upgraded by some good rhymes of the almighty kardinal offishal.
09. "rompe" - daddy yankee
the king of the barrio, daddy yankee, ran out of gas eventually.
'rompe' is his brandnew banging, humping & pumping party track with a m.i.a.-esque break that keeps it away from the dull 'all-reggaeton-sounds-the-same' curse, great peak time track for everybody start running wild.
08. "mic check" juelz santana - marshall law d&b rmx
i got the original 'mic check' maxi for quite a while now but never really played it because it just can't beat my absolute juelz santana favourite 'the whistle song' which will actually gain quite a high position on my 2005 BEST OFs. this d&b remix though gives 'mic check' a whole new quality especially because of its surprisingly fresh and modern sounding drum & bass patterns (and the massive bassline for sure)
07. "bhangra vs. hip hop" - vinyl fetish japan
'wasn't this bhangra thingy supposed to be over with by now?' you might ask. yes, kind of - but this ep from somewhere in japan is just too hilarious. hysteric and real clubby it will cause laughter and mayhem on the dancefloor. i'm looking so much forward to play the usher 'yeah' rip off...
06. "set it off" - strafe
i confess! i have stolen this. not the actual record but the idea to play this track again: many thanks to simian mobile disco! you've brought me back to a time when i was only a little younger than the average clubber i'm playing for nowadays. a time when 'set it off' got played on the radio...in '84, '85 or something...BIG tune, lovin' it.
05. "everything is under control" - coldcut
coldcut is definitely not sleeping on current sounds&styles. the forfathers of everything electronic+hiphop+eclectic+cutsamplebreaks+beats+cool definitely still know their steez, great record.
04. "ska riddim" white - various grime mcs
typical grime 12" with a friendly ska intro and a whole army of mcs. fumin, bruza, doctor and and and? dunno, uplifting though.
03. "born again" - rebel mc
here we go again: rebel mc is also one of my old buddies from back in the days. he's born again, thanks for that, ol'rebel.
02. "tivoli" lp - stacs of stamina
it's really strange how some records get released in complete quiet.
no buzz, no hype, no convincing promotional effects whatsoever. stacs of stamina deserve better. go listen and buy. cool guys, same as radioclit btw. watch out, we will bring them out to berlin. we hope.
01.b"top shotta" - chase&status feat. riko, trim + scratchy
01.a"duppy man" - chase&status feat. capleton

wooha - value for money! by one record, play both sides!
this does not happen so often, usually i buy a 12" for this one song
i have to play, no matter what else is on there. the chase&status 12" on breakbeat kaos is a double a-sider, both tracks with massive basslines, equally good...

and now you can't wait to listen to all that?
no problem. you know where to go.
09/12/05 subway - cologne
10/12/05 grimetime - berlin

more on this tomorrow. g'night.

TERIYAKI BOYZ

just to prove that the ill-electronic-hiphop-movement we consider ourselves part of, is a totally global phenomena, let's introduce you to the TERIYAKI BOYZ.
they just released their first album BEEF OR CHICKEN on DEF JAM.
they are from tokyo and you should already know their dj:
it's NIGO, the mastermind behind A BATHING APE.
DAFT PUNK are fans, too and so they produced one of the new TB tracks.
have a look at the HEARTBREAK video. and say something nice in japanese.

DIZZEE RASCAL - MATHS AND ENGLISH

word on the streets is that we can look forward to the new DIZZEE RASCAL album
MATHS AND ENGLISH in the not too far away future.
HMV is scheduling the album for march 06.
we hope they got it right...

until then keep on listening to WASTEMAN live, that's all we know so far from the new longplayer...

THE ANDY WARHOL DIARIES

nice idea by f5ive:
he just started a new blog called I BLOGGED ANDY WARHOL where you can find the original andy warhol diaries exactly 29 years after he first started recording them. just as if good ol' andy would still be sitting there writing his own blog. an online time-capsule.
makes me wonder in what certainly ingenious way mister mass-products would use the internet nowadays.

RIDING ROUND THE BLOGS

bikeweb.jpg

DIZZEE RASCAL - WASTEMAN LIVE
it's this time of the year again: the best-of-2005 listings have to be put together like multi-layered puzzles of hear/feel/see emo-decisions prepped with some rational nerdism.
and what turns out to be my number 1 album?
DIZZEE RASCAL "BOY IN DA CORNER" from the year 2003, actually.
hey - this is wrong, you will say. no it's not. when i think of all those Grime & related albums of 2005, then i can not find a single one that has the same freshness, originality and verve to it like DIZZEE's debut. one of the reasons for this is definitely the take of the industry or those industry-craving wannabes on "songs-for-the-ladies" bullshit. what is that supposed to mean anyway? what kind of ladies you think are into Grime? do you really have to listen to ROLL DEEP while holding hands and staring at the moon with blurry eyes? nope. could you just leave that in the damn closet right next to the stinky corpse of r.-unbelievable-dumbfucker-kelly, pls? thx.

WAYNE&WAX DUBBLE DUB MIX
what a perfect little mix to start the day with - especially a sunny sunday with snow-white roof-tops all around town. enjoy.

DJ ELEVEN HOUSTON ROCKS MIX

followed by my favourite DIRTY SOUTH HIP HOP mix right now.
THE RUB's DJ ELEVEN got all the right tracks lined up in a juicy, bass-heavy houston-so-real spirit, absolutely delicious. get it.

JUELZ SANTANA, YOUNG JEEZY, LIL WAYNE - MAKE IT WORK FOR YOU
i got the feeling (i.e.hope) that there are some more DIPSET / DIPLOMATS fans out there by now? hello germany? in case you don't really know what i'm talking about or you've heard of the brooklyn based clan already but don't know where to start at - ok, do this:
get the "BACK LIKE COOKED CRACK" 1-3 mixtapes and the brandnew album "WHAT THE GAME'S BEEN MISSING" all by JUELZ SANTANA. the SANTANA / DIPSET sound gets too close sometimes to kinda like a pathetic warren g/tupac heavy strings & choir richness but the harder, more stripped-down tracks like the one above are really doing it for me. time for a DIPSET party over here, right?

STACS OF STAMINA - ROLL FEAT. EARS

some more cool shit for you to indulge. STACS OF STAMINA seem to be from sweden, they are buddies with TTC and MC EARS and just released a brilliant album full of €CRUNK at the highly recommended WERK label.

GRIME REPUBLIC

jayohpalastweb.jpg

this past thursday night at PALAST DER REPUBLIK turned out really well for
your sickedest girls. pity that so few "real" GRIME headz had been there - pretty good though that the students-meet-kulturbuergertum audience was all open-minded, interested and free of preconceptions whatsoever. we played our first grime-only set together (okay, okay, you know us, we can't just stick to one style - there had to be a little bit of PRODIGY and some HOUSE OF GOD RMX in between and you loved it!) - big fun for both of us. unfortunately we had to end the dj/mc thingy with BRUDER&KRONSTAEDTA quite early due to much too much feedback action and some more technical upfuck.
anyway - thanks a lot to feivel, dietrich, soeren, ras and the great vj-guys from TRANSFORM BERLIN. hopefully we get to work together again.
oh, before i forget: the GRIME PROFESSOR did a good job, too. mister LIEBL of UDK Berlin fame definitely murked down the palace with some bad-ass gangsta grime.
the dark side of the G...

SIMIAN MOBILE DISCO ALONE AT HOME

ok. thanks for that. we are sad and somehow disenchanted.
nobody really showed us any love on saturday. 103 club was basically deserted.
apart from some true souls though: big up sabine, heike, torsten, dirk, mitja & dmitri!
we got the few other people who were there dancing for a while but still not enough meat to work a real party.
we don't know what was wrong, maybe nobody knows simian mobile disco?
which seems strange cause the guy JAS was good and we did definitely fit very well together stylewise.

if you haven't so far listen to this SIMIAN MOBILE DISCO MIX
and SHOW UP pls the next time he's in town.

SAIAN SUPA BRO'S

mitchbrosweb.jpg
say teddy - say toni - say mitchell bro's

we had great fun on friday. intro intim had a good crowd and some brilliant performances to be proud of.
mattafix and mitchell brothers both rocked but the most entertaining show was delivered by saian supa crew. they looked like a bunch of funny bouncing bugs, spitting, toasting and dancing like crazy and occasionally bumbing in each other on stage.
don't know the name of this one guy but they've got the best beat boxer i've seen in ages, scratching and singing the most diverse tracks, or have you ever seen a beatboxer doing 'satisfasction' by benny benassi? c-r-a-z-y!

now we're getting somewhere: the MITCHELL BROTHERS are all in one, or two
actually. well dressed, articulate and mike skinner's best buds. showaddywaddy.

saiansupacrew_web.jpg
more french guys on tour - less burnin' cars. problem solved. hey - joke...
anyway, this is SAIAN SUPA CREW. the bigger letters boys. the real deal.

NINJA VADIM IMMO KRAUSE

11_11_05.gif

wot? you don't want to go out every night? why's that? tired? old? nothing to wear?
come on. don't be like this.
look - DJ VADIM is old, too. chap been around for ages, still fresh though. no bad smells, we promise. plus see this guy from, uhm, america. $MALL CHANGE. not quite a good blogger but a widespread taste in music - always comes handy, especially at 103 club.
oh, btw: in case there'll be this guy in a bath robe standing right next to you, don't call the security, show some respect instead. that's IMMO. crazy-fantazy yo? and all that. meet you there then.

p.s.: hey you english people. lesson: KRAUSE is sort of like the german word for afro. could be a dj team from easty-beasty jena, too.
you'll see.

DA-DA-VID BANNER

davidbannerweb.jpg
WORK THAT - LET ME SEE YOU DRIP SWEAT

DAVID BANNER, my dear friends, is such a GEILE SAU, as we germans use to say.
your girls nearly risked their lifes when they got sucked in by a world of blank horror and we advice you: never follow our footsteps if your sickness does not meet our standards.
spread your fingers, cross the middle ones and say (in a really deep and harsh voice):
WESTBERLIN.
yep. we'd been there. right in the center of darkness and decay.
where tons of cheap-ass PINKY customers wrench their brainless massappeal bodies like a stumbling army of sunbed warriors on the dancefloor at - and this will be the first and last time we mention this terrible name - KUDORF.

but still: it was worth the hassle.
DAVID BANNER turned out to be just the right pulsating piece of sexy, wet flesh we imagined him to be when we first heard his luscious fuck-anthem PLAY. he got rid of his shirt right after entering the stage, showered himself in heavy champagne rain and all you wanted to do was LICKY LICKY LICKY whatever came dripping down his massive chest. uhhhhh. totally ill and motherfucking dirty. you can't go more south than this.
if just these ugly questions wouldn't go round my head all day:
WHY WHY WHY MUST A PERFECT PERFORMANCE LIKE THIS TAKE PLACE IN
SUCH A CRAP LOCATION?
WHY CANT WE PRESENT ARTISTS LIKE BANNER TO DO A REAL PARTY WITH REAL FANS AND REAL EXCESS?
WHATS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE UP THERE IN THE MUSIC BIZ?
WAKE UP!

diplo fabric mix

i just received diplo´s fabric live 24
mix cd.
and i have to say: i am not impressed.
first of all:
i know nearly all of the tracks.
second:
i know them because they are classics.
third:
real oldschool classic - best of elektro - cybotron, yazoo, freestyler, model 500, blablah classic classic.
fourth:
the mix doesn´t sound really special - except for the short trip into baile funk ( 5 tracks from 26 - 2 of them his own productions) - its all blablah - the 3 really exciting tracks have been played by my beloved better half AD for more then half a year now and what the heck are the cure , le tigre (with their BIG classic) and cat power doing on this mix ?

I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED!
WHO IS SUPPOSED TO SET OUR STANDARDS? I GUESS NOW WE CAN ONLY DO THAT OURSELVES.

and smth more : david banner is playing tonight - some where in the west. q dorf?
see you there.
