SERIOUS SERIOUS

okay - london was real cool.
aside from spending way too much money i experienced a
great bit of music/fashion/culture.

RUN THE ROAD
my hotel was so close i could even walk down to the fabric on friday night, brilliant.
thanks to judy and marc i had a very warm welcome there and went straight up to the vip area (which is a bar/lounge located on a gallery right above room one with direct view onto the stage).
when i got there (btw. you wouldn't have believed the queue at the main entrance going over the street around the next block and on and on. everybody just patiently waits in a perfect line, no complaints, no bullshitting. hint hint - you berlin devils...).
lady sov was on, spitting my favourite tune 9-5 but strangely enough i seemed to be the only one being enthusiastic about it. all in all it was not a good slot for
sov being the opener for roll deep in front of a nearly all-male audience that showed no love for the lil' volcano in the adidas track suit.
then cameo came on, great intro as always, followed by jme and crazy titch and then a whole bunch of roll deep family members: danny weed, jammer, wiley, manga and lots more, too many to be sure about who was who really. the show was pumping, all hits sung along by the crowd, cameo acting like crazy behind the turntables, rewind action over and over again. nice. best mc: definitely jme (wiley seemed a bit weak and puzzled to me,
uh - must have been the cigarettes, aight?).
what happened next was totally new to me. i had no idea how huge klashnekoff is in london. when he and his crew entered the stage the crowd went totally mad!
all hands up, everybody shouting, everybody repping along to every single tune, wow - massive. i dont know much about him (apart from being featured on the first run the road comp and the rwd bit) but the man is a star. very small, very charismatic guy with the utmost friendly but political conscious performance i've seen in years.
a hip hop reggae grime mix with a very professional and active crew and a fantastic dj (if i just would know who he was). we got to get them for revolution n°5 - exactly our cup of tea, darling!
since i got hit by some vanilla vodka (eek!) and some herbs in the meantime i kind of lost track of whatever happened then. when i looked back at the stage again i saw a second roll deep set with a different dj (dunno) and even more guys present - one of them being the worst, and let me say this again, the worst (english) mc i've ever seen.
i'm sorry, scratchy, but you're not having it.
ok you're white which might not make it any easier for you but hey - there are enuff white boys&girls out there who get their moves and their spitting right, unfortunately you're not amongst them. leave it. or maybe you just had a bad mic day? i hope so.
all in all the show was a bit disorganised, everybody seemed to get closer to the state jammer was in the whole night already (he carries a glass of champagne and a spliff around with him all the time) or maybe this is just the way it goes. then everybody left stage and the scratch perverts came on. great skills: their scratching and mixing even woke me up again but not for long. i had to leave for the hotel right in the middle of their set to finally get some rest (after i had to get up so damn early in the morning to catch my flight).

great night. good crowd (big crowd!). even if i missed the over the top girls percentage that i'm used to from the wmf. i really hope that we get a similar amount of people to listen to grime in berlin in the upcoming months.

run the road 2 will be out in august
